19 Jan 2020. 2nd Sunday OT. Cycle A-2020. Is 49:3, 5-6 + 1Cor 1:1-3 + Jn 1:29-34

I am honored in the sight of the Lord, and my God is now my strength! … I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth (Is 49:5b, 6b).

In 1954, when the U. S. political, economic, and military power was uncontested worldwide, the U.S. Congress added “One nation under God” into her Pledge of Allegiance.

The act was a fitting acknowledgment of God’s favor that she be founded to be a Christian power. “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

But now, God-haters increasingly dominate the political, economic, academic, cultural, and social institutions of the nation. They conspired to ban God, and to outlaw the expression of “God” from the public square.

When God leaves, truth dies and decays. When truth decays, lies swarm over its dead body. When lies infest, strife leeches liberty. When liberty totters, the nation crumbles.

If we ever forget that we are ‘one nation under God’, then we will be ‘a nation gone under’.” Today, we see this prophecy of President Ronald Reagan being fulfilled. VSS

We had no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” — John Adams, U.S. Founding Father, Letter to the Massachusetts Militia, 11 Oct 1798.
