9 Feb 2020. 5th Sunday OT. Cycle A-2020. Is 58:7-10 + 1Cor 2:1-5 + Mt 5:13-16

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly father (Mt 5:14-16).

I do not recognize a Christian from a pagan;
Both talk and act just like the others.
I cannot distinguish a virtuous from a vicious;
Both work and live just like the others.
I do not figure out the rightist from the leftist;
Oppose each other, yet look alike.

Christian, why mutter when you do not matter?
You did not bother when it most mattered.
Believer, why holler, now that you are doomed?
You did not shine when the darkness loomed.
Faithful, why cry out when your faith is trampled?
Your salt flavored not this wicked world.

You are the salt of the earth. … if salt loses its taste … It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot (Mt 5:13). VSS
