7 Jun 2020. Trinity Sunday. Cycle A-2020. Ex 34:4b-6, 8-9 + 2Cor 13:11-13 + Jn 3:16-18

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you (2Cor 13:13).

The dogma of the Triune God (CCC, §253-255, 258) can be illustrated to secularists in mathematical expressions, the language that they find scientific.

There is only One God, and there are Three Persons in One God—the Holy Trinity.

God is One but not solitary.
1 + 1 + 1 = 3

The names—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—are not modalities of the One Divine Being. Each is a person distinct from the other. “The Father is not the Son; the Son is not the Father; the Holy Spirit is neither the Father nor the Son.”

The divine unity is triune—three in one.
1 x 1 x 1 = 1

Although the Three Persons are distinct from one another, They are of the same substance, or of the same nature—One God. “The Divine Persons are each God whole and entire” The Father is that which the Son is that which the Holy Spirit is that which the Father is. Each Being multiplied by the Same Being do not increase or bolster the One Being.

Each Person is a unit equal and the same One God.
1 ÷ 1 ÷ 1 = 1

Likewise, the Three Persons although distinct from one another do not divide or share the Divine Unity among Themselves. Each unit divided by the same unit produces the same and equal unit. The distinction resides solely in Their relationship with one another. “Because of that unity the Father is wholly in the Son and wholly in the Holy Spirit; the Son is wholly in the Father and wholly in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is wholly in the Father and wholly in the Son.” VSS
