28 Jun 2020. Cycle A. 13th Sunday OT. 2 Kgs 4:8-11, 14-16a + Rom 6:3-4, 8-11 + Mt 10:37-42
“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me…” (Mt 10:37).
IHS – Greek monogram of Jesus’ name. IHS – I Hate Self is how to love Jesus more than self. Loving self more is loving Jesus less. Loving family more is loving others less. Loving self is gratifying one’s self. Loving self is craving for one’s comfort. Hating self, though, is not trashing self. It’s loving Jesus trumping loving self. To love self only is to love the world. To love the world is to live for today. To love Jesus is to love the Father. To love the Father is to live forever. VSS

“…and whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” (Mt 10:38-39).
