12 Jul 2020. 15th Sunday OT. Cycle A-2020. Is 55:10-11 + Rom 8:18-23 + Mt 13:1-23.
“For just as from the heavens the rain and snow comes down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to him who sows and bread to him who eats, so shall my word be that goes from my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it” (Is 55:10-11).
Why preach to the pagans? They would not listen any way. Why debate with atheists? They would not believe anyhow. Why correct the wise and old enough? They would think I'm dumb and too old. Why preach at all? They would just stare and smirk. But I preach nonetheless, until I die! I talk and shoot like a shotgun. A pellet from a spray may hit the target; A word from my mouth may hit the heart. VSS
In Jesus’ parable of the sower (cf. Mt 13:1-9), among the many seeds the sower scattered, many died on bad soil but a few lived on good soil giving fruit of varying produce.
Preach the Word, no matter what gets accepted, no matter when inconvenient, no matter how seemingly worthless (cf. 2 Ti 4:2).
The Spirit works, not us, no one knows where, no one knows when, no one knows how (cf. Rom 8:26-27). VSS
