2 Aug 2020. Cycle A. 18th Sunday OT. Is 55:1-3 + Rom 8:35, 37-39 + Mt 14:13-21
All you who are thirsty, come to the water!
You who have no money, come, buy grain and eat;
Come buy grain without money,
Wine and milk without cost!
Why spend your money for what is not bread;
Your wages for what does not satisfy?
Only listen to me, and you shall eat well,
You shall delight in rich fare.
Pay attention and come to me;
Listen, that you may have life.
(Is 55:1-3a).
It is too good to be true, some might say.
It is too good to dismiss, I might say.
I took the bait since I had nothing to lose.
I tucked the passage, and lo, I was filled up.
I prayed it every day, and lo, I was comforted.
I reflected on it, and lo, I was tuned up.
I lived it, and lo, I got a jump-start.
I was stuck, and so I just needed that push.
I lost power, and so I just needed that boost.
I did not get welfare, but lo, I got good care.
Bless God, now I am back up and running. VSS
